Higher Quality, Higher Cost? Not Necessarily

Daniel Grunberger · December 27, 2019 · Leave a Comment

How Much Should You Be Paying for Your Melee Diamonds?

There are so many factors that go into creating a profitable jewelry design. Aesthetics matter, of course, but each piece in the line must also make sense financially. With that in mind, you’ve probably done some price-comparison for the products used to create your designs. This can be a good idea, but it can also be a bad one. Our area of expertise is, of course, melee diamonds, so that’s what we’re going to use as an example to illustrate the point.

What happens if you buy the cheapest melee diamonds available? The answer is simple: you get what you pay for. Bargain basement melee diamonds are going to result in a finished product that doesn’t have the sparkle, brilliance, and appeal that you’re after. Wholesale discount melee diamonds can be questionably graded, are seldom exactly the size they’re purported to be, and, when used in quantity, can make even your best designs look tired and sad.

So, we know there’s no sense choosing the lowest bidder. But what if we take the opposite approach? If cheap melee diamonds are a bad idea, does it make sense to buy the most expensive stones available? Does a higher cost indicate higher quality?

Not necessarily.

The cost of melee diamonds depends on several factors, including how the diamonds were originally sourced, their grade and quality, how and where the diamonds were cut, and the avenues by which these diamonds become available to manufacturers. At every point in this process, there’s an opportunity for additional people to get involved – and all those people have a financial interest of their own. In order for them to get paid, you pay more – and hope that your customer will absorb the extra expense without complaint.

There is another way. Grunberger Diamonds maintains complete end-to-end control of our supply chain, production facilities, and distribution channels in order to keep costs low and quality high. Because we’ve been doing this for so long, we’ve been able to achieve a consistent precision that’s the best in the industry. We specialize in Ideal Cut diamonds between 0.70 and 3.90 mm. Our stones are available in over 40 different qualities. This means we have what you need, at a price that makes sense for your organization. Need more information? We’d be happy to answer all your questions.
