HEARTS & ARROWS
MYTHOLOGY
In classical mythology, Cupid was the god of desire, erotic love, attraction, and affection. He is often portrayed as the son of the love goddess, Venus, and the war god, Mars. Therefore, it is no surprise that the visual pattern of eight hearts – when looking down through the pavilion – and eight arrows – when viewing the stone in the table-up position – would be called Hearts and Cupids in 1988.

FIRESCOPE
However, it is important to mention that none of that would have been possible without gemmologist Kazumi Okuda, who developed a tool called the Firescope in 1970. This tool uses colored reflectors to display a pattern that shows the direction and intensity of light emitted from a diamond. It determines how much light is exiting the diamond at proper angles, and whether the diamond is optically symmetrical. The pattern of hearts and arrows was first accidentally viewed using a Firescope.

PRESENT DAY
Since its creation in 1988, the Hearts and Cupids phenomenon has quickly spread from Japan to the U.S.
Today they are more commonly called Hearts and Arrows, and a sought after high performance cut.

Ideal Cut Diamond Proportions
It is important to remember that of the 4Cs of a diamond, (cut, clarity, color and carat) cut is frequently identified as the most important, because poor unskilled cuts can make a diamond with perfect clarity and color appear dark.
Seeking out ideal cut diamond proportions expertly crafted in the Hearts and Arrows design, brings out the best a diamond has to offer, creating fire and brilliance.
As less than 1% of the ideal cut diamonds in the world, Hearts and Arrows diamonds stand above different types of diamond cuts.
Meticulously crafted Hearts and Arrow diamonds are like a collection of miniature mirrors, bouncing light internally within the diamond and out to the eye. Combined with the Grunberger Diamonds precision cut, Hearts and Arrows has the effect of making the diamond appear larger and more appealing than a GIA excellent cut diamond of comparable size.
Since these unique and exclusive diamonds take three times longer to craft and greater skill than other cuts, Grunberger Diamonds is proud to bring their four generations of experience, and maintain a commitment to excellence and precision in creating Hearts and Arrows diamonds.
